3 - Duntara Community Hall, Duntara
HOURS:10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The hall was built as a school by the men of Duntara, who went into the woods to cut lumber for its construction. The students would bring “junks” (pieces) of wood each day for the pot-bellied stoves that heated the building. The school became the Roman Catholic Parish Hall where community wakes, memorial masses, rosary services and meetings were held. It was also the place for Parish Garden parties and where vaccinations were given when the Red Cross boat came to the cove. After Hurricane Igor struck in September, 2010 the hall became the hub of the harbour where people met, provisions were stored and food was distributed. The hall is still in use today.
