Based in one of the oldest buildings in Duntara, 2 Rooms is a platform for contemporary art, experimental museum display and artist residency. Stephen Aylward, an early settler who lived there with his wife and eight children, built the traditional saltbox house in 1881. After years of fishing Mr. Stephen, as he was known, ran a schooner to and from St. John’s delivering provisions to local merchants. Restored in 2012 by artist/director Catherine Beaudette, the distinctly painted building is a combination of old and new reflecting the confluence of past and present found in outport Newfoundland today.
