Matthew, transporting cargo to European outposts. In the following years, the Matthew transported a variety of goods, including silk, other textiles, wine, salt fish and animal skins. To commemorate the 500th anniversary of Cabot's voyage, a full-size replica of the Matthew was reconstructed at Bristol and sailed across the Atlantic to be welcomed by Queen Elizabeth and 30,000 spectators in Bonavista on June 24, 1997. Today visitors can board a second replica of the Matthew at “Ye Matthew Legacy” Interpretation Centre in Bonavista.
