Team

Luca Jesse Apel, Exhibitions Manager

Luca is a sculptor, arts administrator, and lifelong nomad who has officially pitched his tent in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Whether he is organizing community events, streamlining digital backbones for arts organizations, or chipping away at a log of wood, Luca brings an incredibly unique blend of grounded structure and raw creative energy wherever he goes.

As a sculptor, Luca’s practice is deeply personal, profound, and tactile. His work focuses on translating the lived, often invisible experience of chronic pain into physical forms. His striking pieces have traveled just as much as he has, exhibiting in galleries and festivals all across Atlantic Canada, British Columbia, and Ontario.

He is a master of digital organization and community building. Recently, he brought vibrant public art to life by running the East West Mural Fest in Esquimalt, BC. He also put his tech-savvy mind to work heading up a massive digital infrastructure overhaul for our friends over at St. Michael’s Printshop, all while keeping the literary wheels turning by serving as the trusty treasurer for the toothcut literary journal.

Because a nomad’s spirit never truly rests, Luca’s adventures don’t stop when he steps out of the studio. When he isn’t organizing the cultural sector, you can probably find him hiking the rugged coastline of the East Coast Trail, boarding a last-minute flight to literally anywhere with a warm breeze and a sandy beach, or unwinding at a local brewery in search of the perfect pint of craft beer.
